Matt Chester – desert shift Ep - 11th hour recordings
Style: Techno / electro
Release: October 2007

After a two year break, 11th Hour is back with a devastating new 12” from London’s Matt Chester.
‘Dune Decay’ kicks off, a melting sonic soundscape of huge, endlessly shifting melodies set to an overdriven beat and haunted vocals. ‘Hunter’ takes things deeper and tougher, swirling pads and delayed lead lines giving way to a thumping sub bass kick and rising pulses.
On the flipside, ‘Desertification’ provides the most upfront dancefloor moment, a nasty P-funk groove setting up a searing organ solo and rough strings, whilst ‘Sub Saharan’ hits back with a gritty motor city electro jam featuring a driving, rocky groove and some downright nutty synths.

About Matt Chester [

Born in Canada but based in London, Matt Chester began DJing and producing tracks at the age of 16, after falling in love with the jacking and futuristic sounds coming out of Detroit and Chicago. His first venture into the electronic scene was in setting up the 11th Hour Technology website, and from there he started 11th Hour Recordings as a way of showcasing artists whose music he loved, as well as providing a suitable platform for his own releases. He has released 3 critically acclaimed EPs, developing a unique sound that takes inspiration from the classic Motor City cuts and blends it with modern up front UK electronics, mixing rich synth led melodies with rough, driving beats.

Meanwhile he built up a reputation with his formidable DJ skills – influenced by artists like Derrick May & Claude Young, he plays funk driven 3 deck sets with an energetic and cut up groove. In 2006 he played his debut live set, playing 100% live off synths and drum machines (no laptops!), as a special guest alongside his heroes Underground Resistance.
He has since taken this live act on the road across Europe, and continues to DJ regularly in clubs throughout the continent and further afield.
